The Canton Kindergarten class presented “A Day in the Country” to their parents, families, and fellow students this past Wednesday, May 14th. Their performance was based on Old McDonald Had a Farm, but also included Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush, This Old Man, Skip to My Lou, and many other classic children’s songs that told the story of being down on the farm.

This daylong presentation allows area fourth grade students to experience the year 1866 after reading “Farmer Boy” by Laura Ingalls Wilder. The book came to life for students with over forty demonstrations and presentations, including butter churning, threshing, spinning wool, milking Bessie the cow, blacksmithing, maple sugaring, and many other hands-on activities that showcase the daily lives of individuals from the time.

The writing of this book was an interesting experience for Julian, “I just knew what I needed to write. The book just poured out.” shared Julian. The publishing process, “started with one publishing company and it went to a different publishing company. They did a great job on the cover page and formatting.”

In the month of May alone, Bellows has nine concerts lined up, as well as his Senior Recital. This event will take place at the Rialto Theater on May 13th at 7pm. Admission is free, however, donations are welcome, which will go toward Bellows’ collage endeavors.

Title I Family Night was held on Thursday, April 3rd at Canton Elementary School. The night was sponsored by Title I Funding, which is a federal program designed to help children meet the state content and performance standards in reading, language arts, and mathematics.

“When we plan the career fair we try to cover all of the 16 career clusters,” said Barb Knapp, career coach for Canton High School. “We do our best to make sure they’re all represented.”

On Tuesday, February 18th the Canton Lady Warriors girls basketball team hosted the Southern Colombia Lady Tigers in the District IV class AA quarterfinals. It was neck and neck the whole way, but the Lady Warriors eventually outpaced their opponents, cinching the win 48-25.
