Movin’ Together – The Power of Hydration
Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women in the U.S. – it accounts for one in every five female deaths. We want to change that statistic on Movin’ Together!
A hydrated heart is a healthy, happy heart! How can we do 91 ounces of water daily in a fun, colorful way? At the end of the broadcast and writing, you’ll see the gifts we’ll be giving away to encourage hydrating and for the possibility of winning one!
The U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine determined that an adequate daily fluid intake is About 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) or 91 ounces daily for women.
Dr. Lisa Bull of Bull Family Chiropractic came to the Home Page Network’s Home Page studios to talk about the habit of hydration. She said that when we hydrate, we thin our blood, helping it to move more freely. Some heart problems, such as a stroke or heart attack, are lessened if we are hydrated.
Lisa commented that to help with the habit of hydration, she leaves a filled Mason jar of water on her nightstand so that in the morning, she begins hydrating as soon as she awakens.
Good hydration, in general, keeps sodium levels down, which can reduce pressure on the heart. A study by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute aimed to expand on that insight: Researchers found that consuming a proper amount of water may help reduce or even prevent severe heart problems.
