Tigers fall to Blue Jays in Districts

Central Columbia ends Mansfield's season with 69-53 win

by Ed Weaver - February 22, 2019

The Central Columbia Blue Jays advanced to the District IV AAA semi-finals following a 69-53 win over North Penn-Mansfield on Thursday, February 21.

The game was tight early as the Tigers scored right off the opening tip, but Central Columbia worked their way back to take the lead, then edged Mansfield 16-15 after the first 8 minutes.

Mansfield took a 21-19 lead in the second but the Blue Jays would battle back to tie it up on a Jared Verse layup and steal/layup by Dylan Harris. Central Columbia outscored North Penn-Mansfield 16-12 before the first half expired to lead 32-27.

The Tigers kept fighting and battled back to within 5 points, 47-42, as time wound down in the third, but a late three by the Blue Jays extended their lead to 50-42. Central Columbia was just too much for the Tigers in the fourth. Mansfield tried to extend the game by putting the Blue Jays on the foul line, but they went 9-for-11 down the stretch to pull away for the win.

Dominic Coombe led Central Columbia and all scorers with 26 points, Trae Devlin finished with 18, and Eli Morrison had 13.

Garrett David led North Penn-Mansfield with 14, Sawyer Freeman and Brent Burleigh scored 10 points each, and Dylan Meyer had 9. Jacob Green hit a pair of three-pointers to finish with 6 points and Brion Smith and Logan Tokarz each added 2 points.

The loss ends the NTL Showdown champion Tigers’ season with a record of 18-7 overall.
