Brayden Pequignot and Riley Oakes won North Section titles for North Penn-Liberty and the Mounties will be advancing five wrestlers total to next week’s District IV Class AA Championships.

Pequignot, a sophomore, earned a spot in the 107-pound finals with a 17-0 technical fall in his first match, then claimed the championship with a 7-3 sudden victory win over Canton’s Lyle Vermilya.

Oakes won his first match by fall in 1:27, then made the 127-pound finals with a 4-2 win in the semis. The sophomore beat Kruz McCusker from Sullivan County 2-0 to claim the title.

Wellsboro qualified a pair of wrestlers for the District IV Championships next weekend, as Ryder Bowen and Silas Mickey each medaled at the North Section Championships here Saturday.

Bowen placed third at 160 pounds after opening the day with a fall in :56, followed by an 8-2 loss that dropped the sophomore into the consolation bracket. Bowen advanced to the consolation finals and secured his berth in Districts with a 5-2 decision, then earned the bronze with a fall in 2:41.
