Canton Warriors Defeat the Panthers, 42-13

by Wyatt Wood - September 4, 2023

The Canton Warriors fired on all cylinders last Friday night as they put up 42 points on the North Penn Mansfield Panthers’ 13.

Canton started their offensive game on third and 10 with a perfectly executed screen pass to #20, Micheal Davis, picking up 34 – putting the Warriors in the redzone. This gave Holden Ward the field position for an easy 5 and out touchdown for the Warriors. After the Alexis McRobberts extra point, the score was 7-0, Canton.

Holden Ward wasn’t just an offensive threat, he demonstrated his defensive knowledge and speed with a huge 47 yard interception, setting the Warriors up to score again in the first quarter. Ben Fitch carried it in shortly after, Warriors 14, Panthers 0.

In the second quarter, Davis found himself a hole on Canton’s own 35, rushing for a 65 yard touchdown, putting Canton up, 21-0.

The Warriors kept working their way down the field until Ward found a lane outside, getting the Warriors a first down, and back in the red zone. With an inside handoff to Davis, Canton scored again, increasing their lead to 27-0.

With 12 seconds left in the half, Canton was back in the red zone. Hudson Ward crossed over the middle, received the pass and rushed untouched for another Warrior touchdown. Canton also made the two point conversion to end the half 35-0.

North Penn-Mansfield finally find some space in the third quarter as Gabe Bellows received a short pass and found all the openings to make his way to the end zone, making the score 35-7 with 5:37 left in the third.

Later in the fourth, the Panthers ground their way down the field until Karson Dominick found Cooper Shaw in the end zone with only 5:45 left in the game.

Canton scored once more on the night to finish the game, 42-13.

In other NTL action, Troy defeated Montoursville 38-7 and Wellsboro beat Muncy 14-13. Canton will be on the road again this Friday as they travel to Wellsboro.
