Tigers rout Canton in NTL Showcase opener

by Chris Manning - February 17, 2023

MANSFIELD — Canton couldn’t slow down a hot NP-Mansfield team, falling 65-34 during the opening round of the NTL Showdown boys’ basketball tournament Thursday.

The Tigers jumped out to a 26-9 first quarter lead and never looked back, led by Karson Dominick’s 33 points.

Austin Allen had 11 to lead Canton, while Ben Fitch netted nine. Kyle Kapichok added seven, Hunter Brackman had four, Weston Bellows notched two, and Lance Route added one.

Dominick had 13 in the first quarter while Andrew Green hit two 3-balls for NPM’s 17 point lead. Kapichok had four to lead Canton, while Fitch hit a 3-pointer.

Dominick came back with nine in the second quarter as they held Canton to just four points, all of them coming from Allen.

NPM then out scored Canton 15-5 in the third behind nine from Dominick.

The Warriors would net 16 in the fourth to end on a high note, led by Fitch’s six points.

Canton will return to the court next week for district playoff action.
