Area Athletes Shine At District 4 Track Championships
Local area athletes flocked to Williamsport last Thursday and Saturday for the annual District IV Track & Field Championships.
Williamson’s 4x800m relay team of Cummings, Kerr, Mizdail, & Welch started Thursday’s event off by qualifying for states in 8:02.70 while Wellsboro’s Aiden Gehman (20-ft, 11.50) and Troy’s Colin Loveland (20-ft, 8.25) finished 2nd and 3rd in the long jump, with Gehman qualifying for states.
Canton’s Rian Eberly finished 7th in the shot put (44-ft, 2.50) with Troy’s Avery Sens (43-ft, 7.00) in 8th, North Penn-Mansfield’s Brody Burleigh took 5th in the javelin (165-ft, 6.00) with teammate Jett Harold (158-ft, 6.00) in 8th, and Williamson’s Elias Kaufman took 3rd in the 400m (51.00) with Troy’s Jacob Hinman (51.10) in 6th and Wellsboro’s Jonathan Carl (52.33) in 8th.
Williamson’s duo of Owen Cummings (1:57.66) and Nathaniel Welch (1:58.24) took 2nd and 3rd in the 800m with North Penn-Mansfield’s Zachary Wilcox (1:58.84) finishing in 8th, Kristian Mizdail finished 4th in the 1600m (4:24.36) and 3rd in the 3200m (9:31.54), Troy’s Blake Shedden was 8th in the 100m hurdles (16.25), and Williamson’s Duncan Kerr finished 4th in the 300m hurdles (40.17).
Wellsboro’s Kyle Mosher qualified for states with a 2nd place finish in the high jump (6-ft, 1.00), Loveland finished 4th in the triple jump (41-ft, 10.25) with Gehman (41-ft, 6.00) in 6th, and Canton’s Kyle Kapichok (148-ft, 10.00) smoked the competition in the discus to earn a trip to states.
For the girls, Canton’s Alexis McRoberts (95-ft, 7.00) finished 9th in the discus, Canton’s Daveian Crowley (12.81) was 4th in the 100m and 4th in the 200m (26.42) with teammate Kendall Kitchen (27.15) in 8th, Crowley also took 5th in the 400m (1:01.42), and Camille McRoberts (2:27.30) was 8th in the 800m and 7th in the 1600m (5:31.16).
Troy’s Alyssa Parks (48.65) finished 7th in the 300m hurdles, Canton’s 4x400m relay team of McRoberts, Kitchen, McRoberts, & Crowley (4:15.43) finished 7th, Parks (5-ft, 0.00) finished 4th in the high jump, Kitchen (10-ft, 0.00) was 4th in the pole vault, and Wellsboro’s Annie Gehman (35-ft, 1.00) won the triple jump.
