North Penn-Mansfield tops CV on Homecoming Night

by Wyatt Wood - October 2, 2023

On Friday, September 29 the North Penn-Mansfield Panthers hosted the Cowanesque Valley Indians at Island Park and came away with 20-14 win on homecoming night.

The first quarter was a defensive battle, with neither team finding the end zone.

Second quarter, in the red zone Panther Cale Wagner took the inside handoff, cut outside, and ran in for the touchdown. The Panther point-after attempt was no good, making the score 6-0.

Then with 9 minutes and 52 seconds left in the second, the Panthers lined up on the 35. A big ball from Karson Dominick to Luke Kreger brought in another Panther touchdown. North Penn-Mansfield went to the air again for the two-point conversion, Dominick to Wagner in the corner of the end zone, making the score 14-0.

In the third quarter CV advanced their way down the field. Inside the 10 with only 13 seconds remaining in the quarter, CV’s Graham Hess dropped back to pass, but kept it and sprinted his way across the goal line. The Indians also went for two, making the score 14-8.

Fourth quarter, CV forced a turnover and drove down the field. Inside the 10, CV’s Dave Hess received the handoff, hit the outside, and scampered his way into the end zone. The Indians two-point conversion failed, tying the score 14-14 with only 2 minutes and 46 seconds remaining in the ball game.

The Panthers responded, relentlessly working their way down the field and inside the red zone. With only 18 seconds left, Dominick found Wagner for the score. The extra point failed, and the Panthers finished the game with the win, 20-14.

The North Penn-Mansfield Panthers will be back on the field again next week as they travel to Athens to face the Wildcats.
