Meet the Candidates: Miss Canton
Our community is excited to celebrate the 82nd Pennsylvania State Laurel Festival in Wellsboro. This cherished tradition is a testament to our community’s spirit and unity. A highlight of the event is the participation of young, talented women who ride the floats in the Laurel Festival Parade, representing over thirty schools.
In part three of our queen candidate interviews, we will meet Miss Canton, Kathryne Kilbourn, who is the daughter of Daniel and Anita Kilbourn of Roaring Branch.
Kathryne worked on two dairy farms, volunteered with an FFA gift drive for children, was a member of the National Honor Society and the yearbook club, and served as the vice president of the local 4-H Club.
She has been active in FFA during all four years of high school. She served as the chapter secretary as a sophomore and junior and as the vice president in her senior year. As a freshman in FFA, Kathryne was awarded the discovery degree and was named the outstanding freshman. As a sophomore, she earned her green hand degree. As a junior, she earned her chapter degree and was named outstanding junior. As a senior, she earned her Keystone degree. The state FFA degree, the Keystone in Pennsylvania, is the highest degree that can be bestowed on and FFA member at the state level. Earning a Keystone Degree requires up to four years of effort through leadership development and participation in FFA activities in school and the community.
Kathryne plans to attend Penn State’s main campus this fall and major in agricultural education with a minor in animal science.
Prepare for the grand finale of our festival, the coronation ceremony, a truly momentous event that will take place on Saturday at 6:30 pm in the prestigious auditorium at the Wellsboro Area School District Administration Building, located at 227 Nichols St. This is the culmination of a week filled with festivities, where our new queen will be crowned, marking a new chapter in our community’s history. Remember to grab your coronation tickets at the Wellsboro Area Chamber of Commerce office at 114 Main St., Wellsboro, and at the auditorium’s door.
