Warriors Central: The Essential Work of Counselors

by Dr. Amy Martell - February 15, 2025

In celebrating National School Counseling Week last week, the Canton Area School District honors Mrs. West and Mrs. Watson. School counselors are integral to the school as they are many times directly involved to safeguard the emotional and mental health for our students.

At Canton Elementary School, Mrs. West strives to be student-focused and create positive experiences for all of the students. Mrs. Watson strives to help all students succeed by making a difference in their lives every day. School counselors help students in more ways than you know.

Let’s celebrate them and learn more about their essential work. Every student deserves a school counselor to help with academic achievement, managing emotions, applying interpersonal skills, or planning post-secondary options. School counselors have a tremendous impact in helping students to achieve school success and to plan for a career.

For school counselor appreciation week take a moment to think about a school counselor you know, this could be your friend, your child’s school counselor, or even your school counselor. How did a school counselor have a positive impact on your life and career? Make it personal, reach out and thank them today.

Parents or community members with specific questions regarding school counseling programs should contact the school counselors in the Canton Elementary School  (https://www.canton.k12.pa.us/elementary-school-counseling/)
