The Weekly Highlights 03/31/14 – 04/04/14

A look at this week's highlights on Wellsboro Home Page

by Home Page Staff - April 5, 2014

On Monday we had two guests – Jim Weaver, Planning Director of the Tioga County Planning Commission, and Daniel Strousser, the Wellsboro Borough Manager. They shared with us the importance of the impending comprehensive plan. This plan will affect the borough of Wellsboro and the townships of Duncan, Delmar, and Charleston. This is very important to these communities, as well as the region at large.

This past weekend, a discovery was made in Hammond Lake at Ives Run. Numerous sightings have been reported of a creature resembling the infamous Loch Ness Monster. The creature is described as having a long neck with a reptilian head. This news has caused quite a stir in the area, bringing in tourists – who have set up their grills, volleyball nets, and even fireworks to celebrate the occasion.

In this feature, Wellsboro Home Page had the opportunity to visit Highland Chocolates. They are a non-profit entity of Partners in Progress, providing employment for developmental disabled residents of Tioga County. Currently they have 20 employees, who work one, two, or three days a week in six hours shifts. Their jobs include sorting pretzels for chocolate covered pretzels and their famous pretzel bark. They also make chocolate molds of many varieties, and a host of other sweet treats. Highland chocolates can also personalize products meeting your fund-raising needs.

On Wednesday we had a special edition of the Weekly Briefing with Wellsboro Chief of Police, Jim Bodine. The Chief took Home Page on a ride-along and showed us some growing issues with parking around the Rock L. Butler Middle School as well as one of the more dangerous intersections in Wellsboro.

The winner of the photo contest for February was Lisa Sumner, who came to the Home Page studio to receive her gift – a $100 gift certificate for Timeless Destination and $200 in cash.
