The Weekly Highlights 04/07/14 – 04/11/14

A look at this week's highlights on Wellsboro Home Page

by Home Page Staff - April 12, 2014

Joshua story begins in Harlem, New York, where drugs, violence, and basketball were the “cool” things to do – not tap dancing. Joshua was able to find his identity through tap dancing and never gave up on his dream of attending college. When he was accepted to Penn State, he knew that was where he wanted to be. His next challenge was to find the money to pay for that dream.

A community workshop was held last Thursday night at the Whitneyville Fairgrounds. Citizens of Wellsboro, Charleston, Delmar and Duncan attended. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss a comprehensive plan which focuses on the community’s physical development, as well as its social and economic quality of life. Residents made suggestions regarding the development of a comprehensive plan for the aforementioned municipalities.

Wellsboro Home Page visited the set of Peter Pan Jr. Peter Pan is a mischievous boy who can fly and never grows up. He spends his never-ending childhood adventuring on the small island of Neverland as the leader of his gang, the Lost Boys. This beloved children’s story is coming to the stage, courtesy of the Rock L. Butler Middle School. Heather Ladd is the director of this production. She has directed many other productions, including Wellsboro Area High School performances.

Do you remember the Hardy Boys? Do you enjoy mystery, adventure and the thrill of searching for hidden treasure? This past week on Wellsboro Home Page, we began the first in a special series titled: Attics, Basements and Secret Places. This program idea was inspired by our quest for adventure. Our first feature takes us behind the scenes at Dunham’s Department Store (established in 1905) with two of the owners, John and Nancy Dunham and Mike Wood their Operation and Maintenance Manager for the past 42 years.

Gale Largey was a professor at Mansfield University where he taught for 35 years. He has also produced a number of documentaries including one on the famous Austin Dam disaster. This Sunday, April 13th, Gale is presenting a documentary titled The Lessons of Sister Victoria at the Deane Center in Wellsboro.
