A Look Behind the Legislator | Part 2: Advice From Clint & Lauren Owlett

by Home Page - March 30, 2022

What does life look like behind the scenes and at home for a state representative? Sometimes it’s easy to forget that our leaders are people like us – with families, struggles, and personal joys.

Pennsylvania state representative Clint Owlett is no exception. He and his wife, Lauren, are no strangers to transparency and were happy to share their experiences with us – including some of the surprises they encountered along their journey to the state office.

“I remember thinking to myself…’I hate ironing!'” Quipped Lauren Owlett, in response to what surprised her most when Clint took office. “I have to iron now. Before, for his jobs he always wore t-shirts and jeans…and now we were entering a world of button-down shirts! But he actually does his own ironing now.”

Clint remarked on the pace of legislation and his expectations.

“It takes time, and sometimes it can get frustrating, but when you know what you’re doing is right – keep going, keep working at it,” said Clint.

The Owletts also offered advice to anyone interested in pursuing an office seat.

“There are seasons. Sometimes it may feel super busy,” said Lauren. “You’re trying to juggle your home events, but typically it evens out. It’s not constant. Be prepared for seasons of business, but also catch your breath.”

“Please have a servant’s heart and a love for this country,” said Clint. “These are public servant roles…be motivated to help people and love people and then consider running for offices. Surround yourself with good people.”
