HORNETS STING TOWANDA BLACK KNIGHTS!
The Wellsboro Hornets returned home this weekend after suffering a defeat at the hands of Wyalusing. They will enjoy the comforts of their home turf the next two games, giving them the benefit of home field advantage.
On Friday night the Hornets faced off against the Towanda Black Knights. Wellsboro’s players, the crowd, and the field were adorned with pink in support of the fight against breast cancer.
Michael Pietropola led all passers with 154 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Towanda’s Noah Huff threw for 114 yards and 1 touchdown. The Hornets pulled ahead early, leading at halftime with a score of 21-7. Towanda rallied in the fourth quarter to bring it to a two-score game. In the last 47 seconds, Towanda would punch it into the end zone on a three yard run by Yates to make the score 28-21. The Hornets got the ball back after Towanda’s failed onside kick attempt. Wellsboro claimed victory with a final score of 28-21.

There is so much to do here in Tioga County, with wonderful places to stay and dine. But did you know that we also have an amazing airport and that you can learn to fly here? Today on Wellsboro Home Page, correspondent Victoria Pearson takes her first flying lesson with Wellsboro Johnston Airport Manager Craig Musser. The Wellsboro-Johnston Airport is located 6 miles southwest of downtown Wellsboro. It is available for use by business and private aircraft. Formerly a state-run airport, the Wellsboro-Johnston Airport was purchased by the Grand Canyon Airport Authority and is now managed by Craig A. Musser.

Tioga County has so many stories to tell. It is an area rich in history and nostalgia. People come from all over the world to visit Tioga County, known for it’s beauty and outdoor adventure. But did you know that during World War II, there were people from distant lands interested in our area? And it wasn’t because of the beauty of our Grand Canyon. According to local sources, the Axis powers were interested in the Wellsboro area because of the Corning Glass Factory and the components that were made here at the time. Emporium, Pennsylvania – a town just 68 miles southwest of Wellsboro was also said to be on German bombing target maps because of the Sylvania plant that operated there. In response, our Civil Defense built a look-out on top of the famous Penn Wells Hotel. Read more…
