WWII Vet’s Life Changed Forever
What is the most important lesson you’ve learned? Ask a child, and you’ll get a simple response. Ask a teenager, and you’ll gain a different perspective. Ask a 50-year-old ,and you’ll gain great wisdom. Ask a 99-year-old, and you better pay attention!
I recently had the opportunity to interview 99-year-old World War II veteran and Wellsboro native, Allen Scranton. As part of what some have called the greatest generation, Mr. Scranton has experienced great sorrow and great joy during his lifetime. He nearly lost his life fighting to defend the freedom we enjoy and learned some important lessons along the way. Fortunately, Allen made it home where he has been sharing the most important lesson of all ever since.
Each day, nearly 400 World War II Veterans pass from this life to the next. The greatest generation will soon survive only in our memories. What a wonderful privilege we have to learn from and enjoy the words of this living legend.
