World Renown Photographer Responds: Who Is A Celebrity?
Husband and wife team Blake and Christine Seidel of Camhats (located in New York City) decided to shoot their fall hats session in Wellsboro, Pa, instead of Nashville or another location. They recently bought a home here, so the fit was natural for them to make.
They arrived with one of their staff members Carol Sulla, world-renowned photographer David Dobson and one of their hat models Madelynne Myers. Madelynne was Miss Tennesee and Miss Kentucky and had been modeling for them for years. They also asked Catherine Fletcher and I, who live locally, to model.
David has photographed many celebrities in his years of artistic creativity. (Some of them you may recognize in the video presentation.) A partial list of those he captured in pictures is at the end of this article. Mother Teresa is the one that caught my attention because I have admired her for years. The photos David took of Mother Teresa captured her face and hands. Her hands, David explained, have helped millions. “The hand is how we interact with the outside world, and when your hand is involved, it affects almost every single thing you do.” The late Orthodepic surgeon Benjamin Mauck.
I also mentioned to David that Mother Teresa had so many wrinkles like many of us, including myself! David then stressed that beauty comes from within a person, such as Mother Teresa. My heart wants to strive for that in the way I live – beauty from the inside out!
I have a picture in my hallway of Mother Teresa with Former President Bill Clinton as she is encouraging adoption instead of abortion. National Catholic Register article about that breakfast, ‘Mother Teresa prays as first lady Hillary Clinton looks on during a blessing ceremony for Mother Teresa’s Home for Infants in Washington on June 19, 1995. Below, Mother Teresa prepares to speak at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington on Feb. 3, 1994. President Bill Clinton, first lady Hillary Clinton, and Sen. Howard Heflin, D-Alabama, look on. Mother Teresa sternly rebuked abortion-rights advocates, saying that ‘abortion just leads to more abortion. Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching its people to love one another.’ That picture has reminded me of how important life is for all, including the unborn. It may have been a seed planted in my heart that inspired our family to travel to China twice and bring two daughters home.
Catherine and I felt like celebrities while David was photographing us because he made us feel special while doing it. The word celebrity means the state of being celebrated.
I had a moment last night when I realized we could celebrate those we love – our friends and our family members. Celebrity took on a different meaning.
