What is YOUR favorite Christmas song?

by Sara Vogt - December 22, 2023

I was raised in Wellsboro, PA, in a ranch home my Father designed and built by himself! We attended the First Presbyterian Church while I was growing up. I heard about the love of God from the preached sermons, but I did not commit to follow God with all of my heart until 1977 while attending Christian Assembly in Vienna, VA with Pastor Dan and Scotti Duis. Sometimes, the situations of our lives draw us to God’s love through Jesus Christ. Thankfully, that is what happened in my life.

I want to share my favorite Christmas Carol on this Movin’ Together because it reminds me of God’s protection and love.

My favorite Christmas Carol is God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.

God rest ye merry gentlemen
Let nothing you dismay
Remember Christ our Savior
Was born on Christmas Day
To save us all from Satan’s power
When we were gone astray
Oh, tidings of comfort and joy
Comfort and joy
Oh, tidings of comfort and joy

* Ace Collins has written a book entitled Stories Behind the Best Loved Songs of Christmas. “When modern people say “Merry” Christmas, the word merry means happy. When “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” was written, merry had a very different meaning. In the Middle Ages, a strong army was a merry army, a great singer was a merry singer, and a mighty ruler was a merry ruler.

In Luke chapter two in the Bible it reads …’ there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today, in the town of David, a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

I hope we all have a merry and mighty Christmas! Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
