by Wyatt Wood - October 5, 2023

On Wednesday, October 4 the Wellsboro Boys soccer team claimed a commanding 7-2 victory at home over the North Penn-Liberty Mounties.

35 minutes remaining in the half, Wellsboro’s Lucas Cuneo set up for a corner kick, sent a perfect ball over the middle, bounced once, hit Gabe Sprouse in the face and into the net.

Next, Caden Smith scored of a Cuneo assist – Wellsboro was up 2.

With 16 minutes remaining in the half the Mounties’ Zachary Wilcox played the ball just past the Wellsboro defense and Brady Stetter continued his way through, beating the keeper 2-1, Wellsboro.

The shot of the night was a volley off of Cuneo from Micaiah Fitch’s free kick, making the score 3-1 in favor of Wellsboro.

With 7 minutes left before halftime, Wellsboro’s Jacob Abadi sent the ball up from midfield, Smith received it and chipped the keeper. This finished the half with Wellsboro in the lead, 4-1.

With only 9 minutes left in the game, Alex Citrino sliced his way through the defense, ran over center and put the ball in the back of the net.

A few minutes later, Smith found the goal again to put Wellsboro up 6-1.

Just 2 and a half minutes left in regulation – the Mounties found their second goal as Wilcox broke the Wellsboro defense and put it in the side net to make it 6-2, Wellsboro.

Wellsboro put the nail in the coffin with only 30 seconds left. Citrino centered the ball to Abadi who pinched it in – final score: Wellsboro 7, North Penn-Liberty 2.

Wellsboro will be on the road on October 7th at Montoursville, and the Mounties will be back on the field on October 10 at South Williamsport.
