Wellsboro tops Montoursville, 2-0
On Thursday, October 19 the Wellsboro boys soccer team defeated the Montoursville Warriors, 2-0.
With 29 minutes remaining in the first half, Lucas Cuneo on a corner kick sent the ball center and it was deflected off a Montoursville defender into the goal, starting Wellsboro off 1-0.
Wellsboro’s second goal was scored in the second half. Both teams were back and forth across the field, taking turns defending and countering. Finally, Wellsboro’s Micaiah Fitch set up for a free kick 40 yards out. He sent a perfectly placed ball over center to Cuneo, who dished it to Jacob Abadi and he redirected it into the the back of the net.
Wellsboro’s defense shutout the Warriors the remainder of the game, securing the win 2-0.
Wellsboro also won the NTL title as Williamson tied Athens on the night, and the boys will be back on the field at districts.
