Wellsboro Soccer falls to Midd-West in Semi-Finals
On Tuesday, October 31st, the Wellsboro Boys soccer team faced off against the Midd-West Mustangs in the semi-finals for District 4. The Mustangs seized the victory, 4-1.
At 35:32 in the first half, the Mustangs cantered their way up into the Wellsboro box. William Stover dished it up to Noah Romig who put it in , starting Midd-West off 1-0.
With just five minutes remaining in the first, a big ball from midfield volleyed off of Alex Trojan’s head to Brandon Ferster’s knee for the goal, putting the Mustangs up 2-0.
Less than two minutes left before halftime, Ferster centered the ball, Kole Kerstetter received and shot. It was deflected, but Connor Stoltzfus was there to finish it off. The score at halftime was 3-0, Mustangs.
3 minutes into the second half, Midd-West came off the bench swinging. Trojan shot again, off a Romig assist, increasing the Mustang’s lead 4-0.
With only 15 minutes left in regulation, Wellsboro wouldn’t go down without a fight. Wellsboro’s Micaiah Fitch centered the ball, the Midd-West keeper bobbled it, and Caden Smith was there to clean it up; sending it to the back of the net, denying the Mustangs their shutout victory, 4-1.
