Wellsboro Little League Opening Day!

by John Vogt - April 22nd, 2024

It was a day filled with excitement, camaraderie, and the unmistakable spirit of community as Wellsboro came together to mark the much-anticipated Little League Opening Day for 2024. With over 330 eager little leaguers taking to the field, this year’s turnout surpassed expectations, underscoring the deep-rooted connections within our region.

The festivities commenced with a vibrant and heartwarming Little League parade, a testament to the community’s unwavering support for the young athletes. Families, friends, and supporters lined the streets, their cheers echoing the unity and team spirit that the Little League embodies.
Following the parade, attention turned to the official ceremonies, where Vice President of Wellsboro Little League, Tanya Harmon, took center stage to inaugurate the proceedings. Harmon’s words echoed the sentiment of togetherness and community pride that permeated the event.

“It’s not just about baseball; it’s about coming together as a community,” remarked Harmon as she addressed the crowd. Her sentiment was further reinforced by the stirring rendition of the National Anthem performed by Christina Vandergrift, a devoted Little League mom whose heartfelt performance resonated with all in attendance.

Amidst the excitement and fanfare, Vice President Harmon took a moment to express gratitude to a special group of individuals who often go unrecognized – the honor students who were operating the concession booth. Capping off the day’s festivities was the eagerly awaited call to action: “PLAY BALL!”
With unwavering enthusiasm and a shared sense of pride, the community of Wellsboro reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a legacy of sportsmanship,
camaraderie, and community spirit that will continue to thrive for generations to come.

The Little League Pledge:
I trust in God, I love my country, and I will respect its laws. I will play fair and strive to win, but win or lose, I will always do my best.
There is also another placard at the ball fields in Wellsboro that states the following:
REMINDERS
I’m just a kid.
It’s just a game.
My coach is a volunteer.
The officials are human.
NO college scholarships will be handed out today.
THANK YOU!
