Wellsboro Home Page 2.0
Wellsboro Home Page launched on January 6th, 2014. It is a tremendous honor and a privilege to serve you each day here at wellsborohomepage.com. We want to thank you and our Home Page family of advertisers for making this online publication possible. You are the reason we do what we do.
Our priorities from the very beginning have been to provide you with a top quality NEW MEDIA service, to give the people of our region a voice, to serve and promote our business establishments and to do our best to influence our community for good. That means that we are going to celebrate and promote a lot of the good things that happen around here. Yes, we will cover bad things too, when needed. But thousands of good things that happen too that often go unnoticed.
We had no idea if you would like us or use our services. When we launched on January 6th we were hoping for 1,000 viewers by the end of the month. You all surprised us with over 13,000 visits in just three weeks, and with millions of Facebook impressions since then – you have turned our lives upside down.
Wellsboro Home Page is a New Media experience published daily as a service to our community. It’s loaded with timely news and information from around the world with a special emphasis on the things that impact Wellsboro and Tioga County, PA. Home Page is a digital publication that combines local, TV-like video news coverage with feature stories and photos connected to our community. It’s all presented to you in the convenience of a “homepage” format. That means that many of the online services that you use everyday are right here in one place. You can check your mail, do your banking, connect with your social media, be inspired, and find out what’s for lunch.
We’re doing our best to provide you with breaking news, the latest weather, area sports, important information from Chief Bodine of the Wellsboro Police Department, calendar events, jobs openings, entertainment, dining and special events, shopping deals from our wonderful stores and businesses, school information and important links that you use everyday.
You will always find our current feature story located at the top of our front page. It is also located at the top of the feature list (which runs down the center of our page, just under The Tour.) When a new feature story is published, this story will then move down the page to the next position. If you miss one of our stories or want to watch a feature again you will still have access to it on our front page for at least 30 days. After that, you can find the story you are looking for by clicking on Archives on the left navigation bar or by using the “Search Home Page” function at the top of the bar.
The upper left section of our navigation bar is highlighted in yellow and represents the features that we tend to use most often. For example, when you want to check the latest weather – just click on Weather and you’ll find a list of today’s best weather resources. The latest news, sports and business information are also listed there in yellow letters. Again, for your convenience, we’ve included some of the best resources – both locally and from around the world, such as: the Tioga Freedomist, Blue Ridge Communications, Mountain Home Magazine,The Wellsboro Gazette, ABC, CBS, FOX and many more. When you want to go back to our front page, just click on Home or the Home Page icon located in the top left corner of any page.
What’s New for Wellsboro Home Page 2.0:
Up until now we have been locked into one feature story a day. When breaking news happened we would bump down the feature story and replace it with the breaking news story. But what if something important happened that wasn’t considered breaking news? We were stuck. Now, with Wellsboro Home Page 2.0, we have a way to publish several stories on the same day. You’ll find them at the top of the left navigation bar. Every 5 seconds or so each story will rotate through like a slideshow. When you see one that you are interested in, just click on the story photo or choose the story you want to view from the list located under the rotating photos. We have also cleaned up both the top navigation bar and the side bar to make things easier to navigate.
With all the privacy issues today and the demand for more choices on how you browse the internet, we have added a Search the Internet link (located just above flash alerts in the side menu) that will allow you to choose from a number of search engines including ixquick, the world’s most private search engine. If you dislike being tracked by search engines and targeted by ads they generate, then ixquick may be the right search engine for you.
One of our biggest announcements today has to do with Home Page sports. Today, we are extremely pleased to announce that Ed Weaver has been hired as our new Wellsboro Home Page Sports Director. Ed is greatly respected for his work here in the community regarding local sports and our athletes. Ed operates both WellsboroAthletics.com and WellsboroFootball.com. We are looking forward to working with Ed to build a strong Sports Department here at Wellsboro Home Page. Ed will be assisted by Drew Patrick, Ryan Campbell, former head basketball coach Steve Adams, Jill Fidurko, Joe Carreon, Janessa Davis and Johanna Vogt.
Today, we are also introducing Home Page Kids. You will find it on the left navigation bar. It’s a safe place where younger children can go from time to time to play games, learn good things and boost their imaginations by listening to KIDS STORIES BY SUMU. Natalie Quinn is the author of these wonderful children’s stories and it’s a real joy to have her featured here on Wellsboro Home Page. Don’t forget to check out Home Page Kids!
Jen Davis will continue to keep us healthy with her broadcast, An Apple a Day. Chamber Highlights will continue from the Wellsboro Area Chamber of Commerce. Tim Morey has agreed to stay another year with Outdoor Adventures. Susquehanna Health and Laurel Health Centers will continue to provide us with special medical broadcasts. We will be expanding Keeping Love Alive with various guests, including the much loved Steve and Annie Chapman. Chief Jim Bodine will continue with his briefing. Plus, we have some brand new broadcast features coming up this year. Please watch the video feature above for details.
Once again, we’d like to thank our family of sponsors for making all of this possible. We also thank YOU, our Home Page viewers. You are the best viewers any media organization could ask for. Most of all, we want to thank the Lord for His incredible love toward each of us and for giving us the strength needed to serve our community.
Remember, it’s all right here on Wellsboro Home Page. Please make us your Home Page today.
