Wellsboro Highlights:09/10/18 – 09/14/18

A week of Home Page feature highlights!

by Home Page Staff - September 15, 2018

The Weekly Highlights are a great way to catch up, but don’t forget that you can always watch the full stories from either our front page or the archives section.

Hornets turn up heat, top Montgomery
After a slow first half against Montgomery on Friday, September 7, the Wellsboro Varsity Football team scored 26 unanswered points to notch their third straight win to start 2018.

“For whatever reason we didn’t come out ready to play,” said head coach Matt Hildebrand following the game. “I don’t know what that reason was, we’ll definitely have a better week of practice hopefully. I don’t know if it was the weather this week or what, but we definitely came out flat at home so we really have to clean that up because next week that will lose us a football game.”

Emergency 101: Who’s Responding – Part 1
We all know the importance of the 911 system and the ability for people to call for help when something goes wrong. Because of that the 911 system has been carefully regulated and monitored for many years to ensure that callers get the best quality service they can.

But how well does the system work after the 911 call for service has been dispatched to the Emergency Medical Services and fire departments? In Tioga County, the number of volunteer emergency responders has been declining.

Tomatoes, Onions, and Peppers, Oh my!
Penn State Extension is hosting classes on home food preservation. Another round of classes will be held in Mansfield and Wellsboro in October on “Introduction to Preserving.” Master Food Preserver, Kim Furry, discusses the basics of home preservation in this introductory class. Important things such as determining the safe and appropriate processing method based on the acidity of the food item, are covered. Safe recipes, selecting and inspecting equipment, boiling water processing, pressure canning, atmospheric steam canning, dehydrating, air drying, and fermenting are important things discussed during the class.

Incoming: The Best Dressed Showcase
On this broadcast, Home Page Vice-President, Sara Vogt, spoke with Christine Moore of Christine A. Moore Millinery, about what her company will be doing to encourage you to come and join in on the fun this year! Sara also found out from last year’s second place winner, Jan Stiner, how he felt when he was awarded a gift certificate for a Christine A Moore hat. Seeing that it was Christmas time, he offered the certificate to his wife so she could have a hat made for her. BUT is that the end of the story? Watch this broadcast to find out what Christine is offering those who join in on the fun this year and who did get a hat at Jan’s home on Christmas morning?

Wellsboro girls roll to 8-0 win
Kerrah Clymer scored a hat trick to lead the Wellsboro Girls Soccer team to an 8-0 win over Williamson on Thursday, September 13.

“We knew coming in that they didn’t have a lot, but weren’t trying to run the score up,” head coach Scott Burrous said. “We tried different girls to score and got different girls to score. It was fun. One of our goals is to prepare for districts and sometimes you can move people around when you ge the opportunities to see who can play these positions.”
