Wellsboro Graduation Airdate Announced

by Johanna Vogt - May 19, 2020

On Wednesday, May 20th, at 10:00 am, Wellsboro Area High School seniors will arrive on the football field and will be able to practice a virtual graduation with their classmates. In groups of twenty, students will have the opportunity to participate in the traditional walk across the field in their cap and gown, while also maintaining social distancing mandates. Once one group is finished, the next group will come on the field. The virtual commencement ceremony will air on Friday, June 5th, at 7:00 pm on Blue Ridge Channel 13 and The Home Page Network.

On Friday, May 22nd, at 2:00 pm, seniors will arrive at Wellsboro High School and will have the opportunity to participate in the Senior Parade. Traditionally, the seniors gather together in the school parking lot and decorate their cars together as one last memory. Unfortunately, that is not a possibility this year due to COVID-19 precautions. Representative Clint Owlett will be the grand marshal for this event. The community is encouraged to wave, cheer, and watch the seniors, while still practicing social distancing. The seniors will also be traveling to each of the school buildings as teachers cheer them on.

Shawn and Ellen Bryant have also partnered with Wellsboro High School and have been displaying all the seniors’ names at the Arcadia Theatre to honor them. The community has also done its best to make sure the seniors feel loved, appreciated, and known. During the interview, Dr. Freeman states that the seniors have true grit. She also encourages them to keep up their perseverance in every walk of life.
