Wellsboro falls to Sugar Valley on Senior Night

On Wednesday, February 7 the Wellsboro Hornets girls and boys wrestling teams hosted the Sugar Valley Phoenixes during senior night. Before the matches began, Athletic Director Matt Rendos recognized seniors of the wrestling team and swim team.

The girls match began with Wellsboro’s Megan Robbins at 124 pinning Evie Andrus in 1:57.
At 136 Sugar Valley’s Olivia Johnson pinned Alyssa Chilson in 1:19.
At 142 Hornet Olivia Chilson pinned Emma Downing in 2:56.
The Lady Phoenixes claimed three more matches via forfeit, securing their victory over the Lady Hornets, 24-12.

After the girls match concluded, the boys hit the mat.

Sugar Valley’s Leroy Culvey won by forfeit at 107, followed by Wellsboro’s Mason Now at 127.
At 139 Phoenix Jarren McCloskey pinned Wyatt Kilburn in 1:56.
Sugar Valley claimed another forfeit to Wyatt Conway at 145.
At 152 Phoenix Cameron Quick pinned Silas Mickey in 0:27.
Wellsboro’s Jacob Dean won by forfeit at 160.
At 172 Wellsboro’s Ryder Bowen won by decision over Cayden Weaver.
At 189 Hornet Evan Ingerick pinned Sam Goldsmith in 0:42.
At 215 Sugar Valley’s Brandon Galentine pinned Cooper Jones in 0:49.
And finally, at 285 Wellsboro’s Hayden Stevens won by decision over Levi Galentine.
By the end of the match, the Sugar Valley Phoenixes came out on top, claiming the victory 30-24.

The Hornets will be back on the mat again tonight as they host Port Allegany.
