Wellsboro Boys Soccer Tops Athens In OT, 2-1
The Wellsboro boys soccer team hosted the Athens Wildcats on Tuesday, September 12. Early on it was defensive game, both teams making many stops, but no goals were scored in the first half.
Later, after a penalty in the box, Athens’ Mitch Hamilton finally found the back of the net, starting the night off 1-0, Athens – halfway through the second half.
6 minutes later, Wellsboro’s Micaiah Fitch sent the ball upfield to Noah Morey who took a shot that was deflected. Then Caden Smith barreled through for the finish, tying up the score 1-1.
The defensive prowess of both teams continued until regulation time was concluded and the game moved into a sudden death overtime.
Under two minutes into overtime, Fitch lined up thirty yards out and sent the ball over center, scoring a goal off a header by Lucas Cuneo – ending the game, 2-1 Wellsboro.
The Wellsboro boys will be back on the field again on Saturday as they host Loyalsock.
