#WeAreTeamBellows Fundraiser
Back in the fall life for Jason and Wendy Bellows changed forever. Jason had a diagnosis of Metastatic (Stage 4) cancer. Thus began several second opinions and a battle plan to save Jason’s life. As Wendy and Jason determined how to tell the Canton community and friends and family this Facebook post was penned by Wendy, “Type and delete. Type and delete.”
That’s what I’ve been doing, in an attempt to put this post together. As a family, we struggle to show our vulnerable side. But my eyes have been opened to incredible kindness and love and I have come to know that we have so many more people in our corner than I could have ever imagined. And I am thankful and humbled to tears most days.
If you don’t know, then here’s the story. Jason has been diagnosed with Metastatic (Stage 4) cancer. True to Jason’s entire medical history, he doesn’t paint a clear picture. First it was Colon cancer, and a total colectomy was suggested. Then we learned he had 2 additional tumors, one in the liver and one “on or near” the pancreas. After an excruciating and long 2 1/2 months and lots of tests and doctors. We *think* we’ve landed at a likely Cholangiocarcinoma, which is a big word for cancer of the bile duct. But also could be a metastatic Pancreatic Cancer. Either way, it’s an aggressive cancer.
Thank God, Jason has been a fighter since I met him, because he’s got the biggest one of his life ahead. As you may or may not know, these are likely not curable cancers, but we are darn sure gonna try to show you just how amazing God can be and we are gonna pray that He shows up BIG in this fight. And if you’ve ever seen Jason in a fight, you already know how it ends. ;)
Jason will have a port placed on Friday and is scheduled to start aggressive Chemotherapy on Monday.
Many people have asked us what they can do to help, and at this point we are still trying to figure all of this out. But, I absolutely believe in the power of prayer, and we would so much appreciate it if you could just keep our entire family in your prayers -mostly Jason. We pray God will show great favor over him, ease his discomfort and give him strength and good health and that we will find some way to eliminate this from his body completely.
Thank you to EVERYONE who has reached out to offer support, prayers and encouragement so far. We are so very touched by your love and will absolutely lean on it as we continue through this journey.”
#weareteamBELLOWS
Following the news, #weareteambellows was coined. The greater Canton community rallied around them and this fundraiser is only one piece to that rally cry. On Sunday, February 27th from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm a Chicken n Biscuit Dinner and Chinese auction will occur at the Canton Moose Lodge. Along with the dinner and auction, an ATV raffle is taking place. Only 1000 tickets will be sold, they are $25 each. Tickets can be picked up at local businesses including the Moose Lodge or by contacting Randy Gilliland 570-250-4589 or Jim Colton 570-916-0377. To donate items for the Chinese Auction, please contact Angela Sechrist or Hannah Gilliland.
