Warriors Stable Wyalusing Rams, 47-14

by Wyatt Wood - October 2, 2023

It was homecoming night in Warrior country last Friday, and Canton celebrated with a 47-14 victory over the Wyalusing Rams.

Halfway through the first quarter, Aydin Holcomb received the handoff, broke a tackle and made it to the ten yard line before he was brought down. A few plays later, Warriors inside the 5, Hudson Ward muscled his way through to the end zone – starting Canton off 7-0 after the Alexis McRoberts extra point.

Next defensive stand, on a Wyalusing punt – Ward blasted through the punt team, blocked the kick and scrambled his way to the live ball, giving the Warriors their second score.

Second quarter, Warriors on the Wyalusing 40, QB Ben Fitch faked the handoff, called his own number, found the hole, turned on the jets and beat four Wyalusing defenders for the touchdown. The point-after-attempt was good, making the score 21-0 Canton.

Time ticking down in the half, Fitch dropped back in the pocket and hit Holden Ward across the center, moving Canton up to the Wyalusing 30.

A few plays later, Hudson Ward scooped up his bobbled handoff, hit the hole and touchdown, Warriors! The extra point was no good, and Canton led 27-0 at halftime.

Third quarter – the Warriors were not letting up. From the Rams 37 yard line, double counter Michael Beers and Jason Mahosky pulled and made a gateway for Holden Ward to rush all the way for the Warrior score. The two point conversion was no good, Canton led, 33-0.

Later in the third, the Warrior airways were open as Fitch sent a bomb to Holcomb who received it inside the 5.

Holcomb finished it off with an outside run, cranking his way through the defense to increase the Warriors’ lead, 40-0 after the extra point.

A minute left in the third quarter, Canton rushed for their final touchdown on the night, as Hudson Ward battled his way over the goal line. McRoberts kick was good, making it 47-0.

The Rams managed to squeeze out two scoring driving in the fourth quarter to finish the night, concluding the homecoming game with a final score: 47-14, Warriors.

The Canton Warriors will be on the road this Friday as they travel to Montgomery.
