Valentine’s Day starts off Kindness Week at Warren L Miller Elementary School
How long does it take to form a new habit? Many sites say anywhere between 17 to 254 days. The kids at Warren L. Miller Elementary School in Mansfield are consciously making a habit of kindness “stick” in 5 days! February is Friendship month at WLM, and the week of Valentine’s Day is Kindness Week for all of the students.
Erin Route, 5th grade teacher and advisor to the Student Council, explained that the Student Council is sponsoring Kindness Week. There is a large heart for every grade in one of the school hallways. When a student does an act of kindness, they get to place a sticker on their grade’s heart. An act of kindness is as simple as saying hello to someone, letting someone know you care about them, making a new friend. Ms. Route said that each grade’s hearts are quickly filling with stickers.
The hearts are a fun and visible acknowledgment of the power of kindness. Maleah, Leila and Nicholas, all students, are pictured in the hallway with the colorful hearts. Thank you WLM Student Council for reminding us how easy it is to be kind!
