UPMC Susquehanna – Child CPR Classes
UPMC Susquehanna Soldiers + Sailors is offering free infant and child CPR classes for parents, siblings, grandparents, and family caregivers. In this feature, Nurse Educator Jessica Birbeck talked with Home Page Correspondent Johanna Vogt about the importance of these classes and how they can save lives. She states that children can choke on just about anything, so to be able to start CPR or relieve the child from choking can be crucial until help arrives.
Jessica along with William Page, an EMT, the Ambulance Chief in Mansfield, and a certified CPR instructor, are teaching critical tools on how to identify choking hazards, address symptoms, and perform pediatric CPR. These CPR classes last about 1-2 hours depending on class size and what is specifically covered. Class sizes range from as few as one person to as many as twelve people.
However, these classes do not qualify you to become CPR certified. Titled “Friends and Family CPR” only teaches the very basic skills on how you can save a child and infant’s life.
If you would like to know more or sign up for these classes, you can contact Jessica Birbeck at 570-723-0192. She will then direct you to William Page who will schedule a class to whatever works best for you.
