Uncovering A Conspiracy In Mansfield: A Coffee Success Story

by Deb Bastian - November 11, 2022 (Originally aired 01/25/22)

Owner of Conspiracy Coffee Company, Thad Compton, sat down with Mansfield Home Page News Senior Anchor Correspondent, Deb Bastian, to talk about why he would open a coffee shop and have a full time job at the same time! There were and are lots of challenges, in fact, as we visited, Thad was coordinating with a plumber to get a sink drain working. But the biggest challenge Thad has faced was getting over the fear of taking a leap of faith! Once he dived in, it took over a year to have everything ready; the building, equipment, employees, and by September of 2017 Conspiracy Coffee Company was brewing!

The idea for the name of the shop, “Conspiracy”, was chosen because it offered lots of marketing opportunities. Everyone loves a mystery and Thad has a knack for playing up the theme. On the menu there’s the Big Foot Challenge, (way more food than most who accept the challenge can eat!), Breach of Contract, Obsession, Omission, Cynic, Skeptic, Mayhem and my personal favorite, Elvis. There are many more fun dishes to choose from plus, of course, lots of coffee creations. If you want your coffee to go, they have branded travel mugs and other merchandise including t-shirts and hats. They also have locally made items for sale in the shop.

Going forward, Thad hopes to find a building that has a loading dock to accommodate the 150 pound bags of coffee beans he uses. Thad enjoys creating flavored beans and over the holidays sold bags of “Christmas Blend” featuring an alien, “Bourbon Barrel Aged Honduras” and “Jamaican Rum Barrel Aged Honduras” beans. Thad also created a special “Gate House” blend and donated $3.00 from every bag sold to the Save the Gate House Fund.

Conspiracy has been host to a monthly “Writers Open Mic” and a poster in their window advertises a Friday evening bible study for MU staff and students. Mansfield is very fortunate to have this friendly, community minded business. I hope you enjoy the video of my visit with Thad and investigate Conspiracy Coffee Company!
