Trojans trounce Hornets, 66-36
On Tuesday, February 6 the Troy Trojans exterminated the Wellsboro Hornets 66-36 with an overwhelming full court press and devastating threes.
The first quarter was basket for basket, starting with Wellsboro as Caden Smith dishes it to Mitchel Lechler for two. The Trojans answered as Colin Loveland reads the play, steals the ball for an uncontested breakaway.
Thirty seconds later, Wellsboro pressuring up – Hayes Campbell kicks it out to Lechler for the jumper. The Trojans fired back, Evan Woodward takes it up the court, tosses it back to an open Jack Burbage for three.
With a little over three minutes left in the quarter, Lechler hits a move and then drains a three of his own. But Troy was done trailing the Hornets and took the lead with a Loveland three and many more to come.
By the end of the quarter the Trojans were up, 13-10.
From the second quarter on, Troy opened the floodgates, draining three…after three…after three…after three…after three…after three…running away with the game. By halftime they led 30-18, and rolled that snowball down the hill all the way to the end, claiming an overwhelming victory, 66-36.
The win improves the Trojans to 20-0 on the year, while the Hornets fall to 12-6. Both teams will be on the road tomorrow night – Troy traveling to Towanda and Wellsboro to Wyalusing.
