Trojans shutout Line Mountain in D4 Semifinals

by Wyatt Wood - November 13, 2023

The Troy Trojans secured their spot in the PIAA District 4 finals after defeating the Line Mountain Eagles last Friday, walking away with the shutout 44-0.

Line Mountain started out with the ball, but the Troy walls were too strong, forcing them to punt. The Trojans Mason Smith back to receive, snags the ball one-handed on his own 25, finds a hole, and turns on the jets – getting points on the board before the offense even has a chance to touch the ball.

Brayden Spalding’s extra point was good, and Troy took an early lead, 7-0.

First play of the second quarter – HUGE inside run for the Trojans as Clayton Smith follows his blockers, breaks through the secondary and is brought down in the end zone! The extra point wa good, making it 14-0 Trojans.

Later in the second, Troy forces their way back to the goal line. Evan Woodward calls his own number, bounces off his lineman’s hip – touchdown, Troy!

Troy scored one final touchdown in the half, as Clayton Smith finds an opening and goes untouched. Spaulding’s kick was good and the Trojans increased their lead, 28-0.

Under 10 seconds left before halftime, the Eagles forced Troy’s field goal team out. Lined up on the 21 yard line, Spaulding splits the uprights with an almost 40 yard field goal attempt, giving Troy the commanding lead, 31-0.

9:38 in the third quarter – Trojans airways are open, short pass to Brendan Gilliland, gets to the outside – the only man to beat gets sealed – and then goes all the way! Touchdown, Trojans – making 37-0.

With a running clock, Troy puts the nail in the coffin late in the third quarter with their final score of the night. Woodward back to pass, sends a beautiful ball to an uncovered Camryn Harwick who trots his way into the end zone. Spaulding’s kick was good, and Troy claimed the semi-final shutout, 44-0.

The win improves Troy to 12-0 overall, still undefeated, and they will host Southern Columbia in the finals this Friday.
