Trojans Overwhelm Juniata, 56-21
An army of Trojans conquered the football field on Saturday, August 26, defeating the Juniata Indians 56-21.
First quarter. After a strong defensive hold, the Trojans forced the Indians to punt. Troy’s Mason Smith fielded the ball and said peace to the Juniata offense, running in for the score. After the Brayden Spalding extra point, the Trojans led 7-0 with 10 minutes left in the quarter.
Second quarter. Troy ground their way to the red zone, setting up Kael Millard to bulldoze his way through the line for the touchdown. The extra point was good. Trojans 14, Indians 0.
The dominating Troy line held Juniata back, forcing them into the air. Ben Warburton seized the opportunity, and the ball, for a Trojan pick six! Following the score, Spalding split the uprights, increasing their lead, 21-0.
A few minutes later, the Indians tried the air again as QB Wyatt Ehrenzeller faked the handoff, rolled out to his right and fired a bomb to Jasper Shepps – who took it all the way to the house. Trojans 21, Indians 7.
With four minutes left in the half, Troy saw that the airspace was clear. QB Evan Woodward stepped back, pump faked, spotted the go-route and found Camryn Harwick for the 35 yard first down.
A few plays later the Trojan line opened up a hole, clearing way for Clayton Smith to put Troy up another 7 after the extra point.
Both teams scored once more in the quarter, making it 42-13 Troy at a halftime.
Fresh out from the locker room, the Trojans charged. From their own 35, Woodward called his own number, broke through the Indians secondary and turned on the jets, making the score 49-13.
The Trojan onslaught continued the rest of the night, ending with a commanding lead, 56-21.
The Troy Trojans are back in action this Friday as they travel to Montoursville.
