To Sleep, Or Not To Sleep?
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a third of US adults report that they usually get less than the recommended amount of sleep. Not getting enough sleep is linked with many chronic diseases and conditions—such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and depression—that threaten our nation’s health.
On a smaller and more personal scale, we are looking at the sleep positions for ourselves and our families. UPMC Susquehanna Soldiers + Sailors Sleep Evaluation Supervisor Bonnie Kendrick, RPSGT, focused on our ability to get into a preferred sleep position immediately after entering our bed and resting comfortably throughout the night.
The different sleep positions Bonnie discussed are the fetal, starfish, log, soldier, yearner, and free fall. She stressed that the best position for each of us is the one that allows us to have the most uninterrupted sleep. Over 40% of us sleep in the fetal position, 15% of us sleep in the log position, and 13% of us sleep in the yearner position. Children enjoy the starfish because it is relaxing for the body. If you are wondering what these sleep positions look like our youngest team member, Julianna Vogt is demonstrating all of them in this video presentation.
When asked how important a mattress is for our sleep, Bonnie responded, “A good mattress, if you are comfortable, you will not change positions as often, and you will get more quality sleep.”
We will be giving away three premium standard/queen MyPillows made for you to have a restful night sleep! To all ladies, e-mail the correct answer to the following question below to sara@thehomepagenetwork.com or comment the correct answer on our special Facebook post. All correct entries will be entered into a drawing for the opportunity to win one of the three MyPillows. The three winners will be announced on Thursday. Tell your friends about the drawing so that they too can join in on the fun!
The question is, what response did Bonnie give Sara when she asked her what is so important about a good mattress?
We look forward to giving away these pillows sponsored by MyPillow, Dunham’s Furniture and Movin’ Together.
