Tioga County Fair Queen Program & Contest

by Sara Vogt - July 5, 2018

The 52nd Anniversary of the Tioga County Fair is the week of August 6th running through the 11th.

However, a significant night for the fair is August 5th! This Sunday evening event held at the Tioga County Fairgrounds is the 2018 Tioga County Fair Queen Contest. The contest begins at 6:00 PM and all are welcome to attend. During the competition, each contestant will present her speech and answer an impromptu question. Johanna Vogt will be playing her violin while the judges’ deliberate. The young woman who wins this year’s contest and becomes the Tioga County Fair Queen for 2018 will be seen representing the fair during the week of activities and in the coming year.

The Tioga County Fair Queen broadcast features Courtney Smith, the Tioga County Fair Queen Program Coordinator and Alyssa Remley, the 2017 Tioga County Fair Queen. Courtney and Alyssa are encouraging young women between the ages of 16 and 20 to enter the 2018 competition. When Home Page Correspondent Johana Vogt asked Courtney to describe the Tioga County Fair Queen Program, she responded by saying, ” The program is to get young ladies out that are ready to promote the Tioga County Fair and agriculture. They are the ambassadors for the fair and the program.” Courtney stated that the young ladies who are interested in competing must be a U.S. citizen, a resident of Pennsylvania, live in Tioga County, and not be engaged or married. They must also apply by July 18, 2018.

For more information and further details, please visit their website here and Facebook page.

There are incentives for those who enter this competition in the form of scholarships and gifts. The 2018 Tioga County Fair Queen will receive one thousand dollars from The Tioga County Fair and WOC Energy Services, each giving five-hundred dollars. Dunhams Department Store is donating two-hundred and fifty dollars for clothing expenses.

Alyssa Remley, 2017 Tioga County Fair Queen, was motivated to be a part of the Tioga County Fair Queen Program from a young age. At nine years old she began showing her animals at the fair and saw the young women representing the fair through the Tioga County Fair Queen Program. When she became of age to enter the competition she didn’t hesitate. After becoming the 2017 Tioga County Fair Queen last year, Alyssa has had many opportunities to support the fair and the program. She represented the Tioga County Fair at the PA State Fair Queen Pageant this past January. In this feature, her pictures tell a beautiful story of her experiences. She plans on attending Penn State University College of Nursing in the fall.
