Tigers top Mounties!
On a night where two teams from one school district came together to raise money for pediatric cancer, the North Penn-Mansfield Tigers beat the North Penn-Liberty Mounties 61-41 on Friday, January 11.
The Tigers got off to a fast start early and took a 14-6 lead after the opening quarter then outscored the Mounties 16-7 in the second quarter to lead 30-13 at the half. The Mounties, however, fought back in the third and won the quarter 15-12 to cut the lead to 14 heading into the fourth quarter, but were never able to get back into contention as the Tigers scored 19 points over the final 8 minutes to pickup the win.
Dylan Meyer led all scorers with 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for a double-double for the Tigers. Sawyer Freeman scored 13 points, Jayden Andrews added 10, and Jacob Green and Garrett David added 6 points each. Andrews added 5 steals and 4 assists to his point total and Freeman and David both recorded 7 rebounds each.
Duncan Zeafla led Liberty with 16 points, Brandyn Choplosky finished with 11, and Brandon Thompson scored 7.
The win improves the Tigers’ record to 8-4 overall and keeps them undefeated in the NTL Large School Division at 6-0 while the Mounties fall to 7-3 and 3-3 in the NTL Small School Division. Both teams are back in action on Wednesday, January 16. The Tigers are on the road at Wyalusing and the Mounties host Canton.
