The World Around Us

The World Around Us

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - June 6, 2023

The Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center is pleased to announce a Main Gallery exhibit of photography by the Grand Canyon Photography Club. This exhibit, titled “The World Around Us” will be on display from June 3rd – June 25th. The exhibit will open with a reception on Saturday, June 3rd from 2-4PM where refreshments will be provided and prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third places, as well as Best in Show. This year’s categories are: The “Eyes” have it (wildlife, people, pets), Flowers/Still Life, Landscapes/Scenic, Architecture, Black and White, and an “Anything Goes” category for creative, composite, or abstract images. There will also be an electronic display of winning photos from the club’s 22-year history.

The Grand Canyon Photography Club was formed in 2001. The club has over 40 members, ranging in skill level from beginner to professional, who share a passion for photography. They work in all photographic mediums, from film to digital. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month from 7-9 PM at the Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center in Wellsboro, PA. After a short business discussion, the featured program covers a photography-related topic, anything from composition to the latest smart phone photography. Following a break for refreshments, the members have an in-depth critique of member submitted images. GCPC publishes a monthly newsletter that includes information on the club, its officers, the upcoming program, and showcases images from the previous month’s critique. In addition to the biannual exhibit at the Gmeiner, Grand Canyon Photography members also have the opportunity to display their work on a rotating basis at the Native Bagel restaurant in Wellsboro.

This display is appropriate for all ages, and there will be a scavenger hunt activity for children. The Gmeiner is located at 134 Main Street, Wellsboro, behind the Green Free Library. We are open from 12-6PM Tuesday through Sunday and admission to the gallery is always free.
