The Tioga County Cat Project
The Tioga County Cat Project is a nonprofit organization that has helped to spay and neuter over 250 cats since April 2019!
They do this through the generosity of their donors and volunteers, as they seek to provide humane, population-control through spaying and neutering. TNR (Trap, Neuter/Spay, Return) is confirmed to be the most effective and humane way to control cat populations. In places where TNR is implemented, there have been significantly less complaints from community members as well as a decrease in disease spread, fighting among feral cats, and spraying. Returning them to the area they were found deters new, unaltered cats from moving into the area. In addition to providing this service for stray cats, the Tioga County Cat Project also helps to provide funding for spaying/neutering a pet if the owner is unable to pay for it. Spaying and neutering can increase the lifespan of your cat and can also help prevent certain infections and cancers.
After starting in Elkland, PA, this project expanded to include other areas throughout Tioga County. They coordinate with low-cost spay and neuter clinics in and around Tioga County for this service. In addition, they provide education and information for resources to community members.
