The Meal of Champions

by Sara Vogt - March 21, 2022

Jumpstart your day by eating breakfast and set yourself up for victory!

Successful people create momentum at the start of the day through consistent morning routines.

Consistency is one of the keys for any of the healthy habits we attempt to do each day.

Breakfast has always been the hardest for me to be consistent in doing each morning. I created the tools to stay on track with my healthy choices and then share them so you, too, can try them to see if they benefit you! Recently, when I read more research on the importance of breakfast, I have become more determined to start my day with breakfast.

Some benefits of eating breakfast include promoting lower body weight, better nutrition, and providing more consistent energy to encourage our active lifestyles. Reasons for why breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

Research shows that those who consume breakfast daily have consistently higher intakes of thiamin, niacin, riboflavin, vitamins B6 and B12, dietary folate, vitamins A and C, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, and zinc. Many of these nutrients play a direct or indirect role in cancer prevention.

Breakfast eaters tend to get more fiber, which lessens their risk for colon cancer.

Another important reason for eating breakfast is the nutrients missed at breakfast are generally not made up during the day.

Research shows children who eat breakfast perform better in school, have better behavior, and are more alert, while adults who eat breakfast feel better emotionally and physically.

Eating a diet high in plant-based foods lowers your cancer risk, and we can start the day with fruit and veggies! Those shakes are a nice way to add those veggies! Also a good breakfast is choosing nutrient-rich foods that include lean protein, low-fat dairy, whole grains, heart-healthy fats, and fruits and vegetables.
The National Weight Control Registry discovered another reason for eating breakfast. The National Weight Control Registry, one of the most significant ongoing studies of individuals who have successfully lost weight, has over 10,000 members enrolled. They found that most people who have lost at least 30 pounds and kept it off for five years or more eat breakfast every day.

I usually start my morning with a banana, then to what appeals to me that day! Three years ago, before Covid, I chose to leave two of my comfort foods behind … sugar and chocolate! I feel great, and I no longer desire my two comrades! But because of not eating sugar most typical breakfast foods no longer appeal to me. So I may choose to eat rice, veggies and fruit to break my fast.
