The Many Helping Hands of the Tioga County Woodland Owners Association
The Tioga County Woodland Owners Association President, Anne Alexander, joined me in the studio to share information about what the organization does. This very active group, started over two decades ago, exists to educate about sound forest management. Anne told me off camera that they meet monthly and always eat very well with a pot luck dinner!
They recently were a co-sponsor of an eagle watch at the Tioga connecting channel. Matt West, an eagle expert, conducted the event with about 20 in attendance, and yes, they did see eagles!
Throughout the year there will be varied opportunities to learn about and appreciate the extraordinary area we live in. The organization collaborates with Penn State Extension, the DCNR, Department of Forestry, as well as experts in areas of forestry. They host or participate in speaker opportunities, seminars, field trips and hands-on activities for members and the public. A few of the events and activities planned for 2022 include bird house building, Potter-Tioga Maple Syrup tour, woods walk and bird watch. There is something interesting every month.
Visit their Facebook page (Tioga County, PA Woodland Owners Association) for a complete list of their planned activities and to see pictures and posts about past activities. If you’d like information about the organization or an activity, contact Anne at 570-279-7074.
