The Little Mermaid To Premiere May 21-22

by Johanna Vogt - May 20, 2021

The Wellsboro Area High School takes on the classic and well-loved Disney musical, The Little Mermaid. Directed by Jodi Niver and Maggie Sensenig, the musical will be performed outside the Wellsboro High School stadium. Sensenig drew inspiration from the outside shows at Walt Disney World and her love of the outdoor marching arts, which gave them the vision for the musical. The show is a hybrid marching show and outdoor musical experience!

As The Little Mermaid is an outdoor production, the students and teachers have had to jump through many hurdles to present this musical to the public. Sensenig mentioned that The Little Mermaid had been the most logistically challenging production they have produced. She expresses that figuring out how to translate a musical from the stage to a football field was difficult for everyone. Fortunately, the Wellsboro Area Educational Foundation gave them a grant to purchase a beautiful blue tarp to create the stage area that created the look of the ocean. Both Sensenig and Niver also had to find props that could withstand weather and quality sound technology. Through all of it, both the teachers and the students can confidently say that it was all worth it, and they cannot wait to perform.

The performances will be on Friday, May 21st, and Saturday, May 22nd at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $5 per person, and children under five are free. The production will be held on the Wellsboro High School stadium field. However, more details to come if there should be inclement weather.

The Home Page Staff encourages you to come to see this excellent play that extremely hard-working students and teachers are presenting. We cannot wait to see you there!
