THE HISTORY CENTER IN MANSFIELD CELEBRATES 10 YEARS ON SATURDAY!
The History Center and the Museum of Us in Mansfield will be celebrating 10 years of bringing local history to life on Saturday, October 15th with an open house. Everyone is invited to stop in at 61 North Main Street between 2:00 and 4:00 to help celebrate this exciting milestone!
The History Center was first opened in 2012 in the Neal House at 83 North Main Street in Mansfield. The kit house from Sears, Robuck and Company was quite historical in itself, featuring beautiful woodwork and built- ins throughout the main floor. Rooms for displays and the library soon grew small for the expanding collections of the History Center, so another building was purchased. The 1849 Church at 61 North Main Street became the new home of the History Center, featuring a Blue and Gold Room for Mansfield High School memorabilia, and an auditorium large enough to seat several dozen and house interesting displays. Many Mansfield High School class reunions include a visit to the Museum of Us.
As the decade of bringing history alive in Mansfield is celebrated, the future is bright for the The History Center and the Museum of Us. The genealogy and research library grows as the displays change and celebrate different aspects of life in our community. From posters with information chronicling the “Mayors and Burgesses of Mansfield” to celebrating “Life in the 1920’s” , the History Center is a valuable asset to Mansfield and those that have called Mansfield home.
