Take A Tour of Highland Chocolates, Made By Extraordinary People

by Andrew Moore - January 25, 2024

Highland Chocolates started in 1994 as an exchange program with that had the county partnered with chocolatiers in Scotland. The Scottish team had a truffle recipe that was replicated here in Tioga County, which inspired the name “Highland Chocolates.”

In 2012 Partners in Progress took over and began investing into the program and providing jobs to empower individuals with disabilities.

Highland Chocolates ships their products all over the country, including as far as Colorado. They had a very successful year in 2023, including selling as many as 29,267 individual “tree stumps” – one of the signature treats produced by the factory.

The factory and store are currently moving into selling merchandise for Valentine’s Day. Stop by their factory location along Route 6 or their shop on Main Street in Wellsboro to pick up some chocolate for yourself or a loved one this holiday.
