It was a busy day of sports in Tioga County, with multiple teams in action.

First off, the Northern Tier League golf teams took to Tyoga Country Club in their next to last regular season match. The Wellsboro Hornets wrapped up their 2nd straight league championship by taking a 1st place finish with a score of 322.

Cowanesque Valley finished 2nd with 347, North Penn-Mansfield was 3rd at 367, Towanda came home 4th with a 394, Sayre was 5th at 398, and Athens rounded out the field with a 400.

CV’s Austin Outman took home the top spot, shooting an even-par 71. Wellsboro then took the next 3 spots with Ty Morral shooting 78, Dylan Abernathy 79, and Joseph Propheta an 80. CV’s Joel Heck rounded out the top 5 with a round of 83.

In local cross country, Wellsboro & Cowanesque traveled to Mansfield for an NTL tri-meet. In the girls race Wellsboro scored a pair of wins, beating Mansfield 23-32 and edging CV, 27-28. Cowanesque also edged Mansfield, 27-28.

CV’s Jules Jones finished 1st in 19:38, followed by Wellsboro’s Madelin Gage (21:29), Mansfield Emma Harris (22:09), CV’s Lilli Hepfer (22:35), and Wellsboro’s Julia DeCamp (22:53) crossed the fish line in 5th.

In the boys race Mansfield topped Wellsboro 22-33 and Cowanesque Valley, 25-30. CV also beat Wellsboro 20-35.

The Tigers Sam Shedden won in 16:58, followed by Noah Shedden in 17:17. CV’s Seth Neal (17:23) was 3rd followed by teammate Chris Harris (17:57) in 4th, and Wellsboro’s Austin Richards (18:03) rounded out the top 5.

Finally, in volleyball, undefeated Wellsboro and undefeated North Penn-Liberty squared off on the court with Liberty sweeping Wellsboro, 3-0.

The first and third sets were close with Liberty winning 25-20 in the first and 25-21 in the third. Liberty went on a tear in the second set winning a lopsided, 25-8.

For Liberty, Ali Koval had 18 points and 30 digs, Maddie Minyo had 17 kills and 18 digs, Grace Tice had 7 blocks and 6 kills, Charisma Grega had 21 digs and 7 kills, and JoAnne McNamara had 12 points and 18 assists.

For Wellsboro, Ryann Adams had 24 digs, Caitlyn Callahan had 4 kills, 3 points, and 1 ace, Breighanna Kemp had 8 points (2 aces) & 3 assists, Megan Starkweather had 6 points, 6 assists, and 5 blocks, and Bailey Monks had 3 blocks and 3 kills.
