Snack n’ Sack Program Feeds Local Children
The Snack n’ Sack program was started by volunteers from Holy Trinity Church wherein these volunteers, spear headed by Ashley Leffler, saw a need in the Troy community. They started in January, 2019 and were delivering to W.R. Croman School. They were aiding approximately 135 children through the school year. Today, they are delivering 435 meal and snack bags each week which are distributed to W.R. Croman, Troy Intermediate School, Troy High School and the local HeadStart program.
They have many volunteers that meet at the Holy Trinity Church every Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m. to pack these bags. They do Weekend meal bags which include, milk, juice, breakfast items, snack items, meal items, vegetables and fruit. The snack bag contains snack items and one beverage. They then deliver them out to the various locations. There are no names exchanged so the kids can just pick up these bags in the designated locations inside each facility.
They get most of their support through local donations from local businesses and donors including Holy Trinity Church, Hoover Hardware, Troy Vets club, C&N Bank, First Citizens Community Bank, Francis Casey, Inc., Central PA Food Bank Grant, Hillcrest Apartments, Eighmey Chevrolet Buick, Sylvania First Presbyterian Church, Troy Christian Council, Canton Women of the Moose in addition to numerous local individuals and groups.
Tracey also talked about the regular assistance of Serve, Inc volunteers in addition to the many members of their congregation who work hard every week to receive, deliver, store and pack the 435 meal and snack bags each week.
The Sylvania Lions picks up all their recycling from unpacking all the boxes of goods.
Their Mission Statement: Our mission is to provide nutritious, weekend meals to the children of our community for the glory of Jesus Christ.
We would like to thank Tracey and all of the volunteers from the Snack n’ Sack program for all their hard work and effort in feeding the children of our community!
