Season of Giving: Operation Christmas Child

by Natalie Himmelbeger - November 2, 2022

Your mission? Fill a shoebox and send joy to a child in need this season! Operation Christmas Child is an international ministry that demonstrates God’s love to children in need worldwide by delivering gift-filled shoeboxes and the good news of Jesus Christ! Now is the time to start shopping because in less than two weeks it will be National collection week, from November 14-21, 2022.

Melissa Owlett of Arise Cafe, has set a goal to fill 10 shoeboxes. YOU can easily be a part of this. While you’re out shopping grab an item for a child, stop in at Arise Cafe and give it to the team to help a child have a Christmas gift they’ll never forget. One anonymous donor has already bought math flashcard packs to place in each of the boxes!

Jackie Smith, Drop Off Leader for Tioga County, began working with Operation Christmas Child out of her home 23 years ago. Once the collections outgrew her living room and dining room, they sought out a church where the region could drop off completed shoeboxes.

Many local churches provide boxes and drive them to the Baptist Church of Blossburg, which is one of the official drop off locations for the region. Packing your shoebox gifts in sturdy preprinted plastic shoeboxes is a great way to ensure they travel safely into the hands of boys and girls around the world. For those who don’t attend a church, you can buy a plastic tote from any store, purchase stocking stuffer like items and bring it to a drop off location. You can even go online where you can “pack” a box without ever leaving your home!

If you have further questions or need more information visit Operation Christmas Child’s website. You can print of labels, find gift suggestions and view testimonials from recipients! Below are several drop off locations.

If you’re interested in helping pack, process the shoeboxes, or have more questions feel free to contact Jackie Smith at (570) 404-4632 or email her smith@11466@gmail.com
