Renovation Begins On Woodland Park
Woodland Park is getting a complete upgrade! One of Wellsboro’s most beloved parks, Woodland Park deserves some love and attention, and the construction has now officially begun.
The planning process for this renovation has been 5 years in the making. A state grant was obtained, as well as finalizing plans that included facilities representing the desires of Wellsboro citizens. These plans were comprised from the feedback gathered at multiple public forums on the topic. All of this work and preparation has culminated in a project “Master Plan”.
Phase 1 of the plan, which has just officially begun, involves the picnic area. Walking paths will connect this area all the way to the center of the park where a brand new, extensive playground will be installed. Pavilions on either side of the new playground area will have clear and easy visibility and accessibility to the equipment. Another notable change to the park will be the elimination of roadways. Parking areas near the pavilions will serve as the entrance to the park, with plenty of walkable trails to give access to the other various zones. Iconic gaslights, as well as scenic benches will be added to the landscape. And, to finish up phase 1, a brand new Lion’s Club pavilion for chicken barbecue will be erected.
The project will consist of a total of 4 phases. The second phase highlights include a rebuild of an octagon pavilion that existed in the past. Reflecting pools, bathrooms, parking area, and trail heads for the rest of the park will be added in this phase, as well. Next, the grooming of the interiors of the park, followed by another impressive list of amenities including a basketball court, more parking, trail heads, and another pavilion.
The flow and connection amongst all the areas of the new-and-improved Woodland Park plans have been meticulously thought out and expertly planned. The construction process is expected to last as long as weather permits. Due to shutdowns, the start date has been delayed from the desired ground breaking in June. The team plans to take a winter break, and get right back to work in the spring. This is a large undertaking that will have impressive payoffs. In the meantime, Bryden Street through Woodland Park will be closed for construction as the community waits in anticipation for the gorgeous updates to be installed.
