Pine Creek Rail Trail First Energy Check Presentation

by Sara Vogt - December 22, 2022

On December 21st, in the Wellsboro Court House, Jason Krise of First Energy presented a check for $10,000.00 for the Pine Creek Rail Trail Extension. Also in attendance were Representative Clint Owlett, Commissioner Roger Bunn, Commissioner Mark Hamilton, Commissioner Eric Coolidge, Tioga County Partnership for Community Health Sue Sticklin, Tioga County Assistant Chief Clerk Marc Rice, Tioga County Planning Specialist Deb Bigley and Tioga County Panning Director Kaye Aumick.

On the broadcast, I spoke with Deb Bigley about the importance of this check. Deb said,” This portion of the project is the Pine Creek Rail Trail Extension, and it is about a three-mile extension of the current Pine Creek Rail Trail from its current northern terminus on 287 into the town of Wellsboro.”

I also spoke to Jason Krise of First Energy, who presented the $10,000.00 check for the extension. When I asked him why his company supported the trial, he responded, ” First Energy is definitely committed to activities outside of just our electric company. We want to be able to work with our communities, get our people outside, and get them active.” He stressed that it is also a part of economic development because the Pine Creek Rail Trail will bring in outside people who will come to the region, increasing its financial stability.

I look forward to the day when we can all choose to hop on our bikes in Wellsboro and ride the Pine Creek Rail Trail for a few miles or over seventy miles!
