Panthers run past Cowanesque, 30-12
Sophomore Kohen Lehman rushed for three first-half touchdowns and 208 yards en route to a 30-12 win over Cowanesque Valley for the North Penn-Mansfield Panthers on Friday, October 12.
North Penn’s offense got started through the air, however. Following a huge opening-kickoff gain by Cameron Fabian, Colton Litzelman connected with Noah Spencer from 10 yards out for the game’s opening score. The extra point failed, but the Panthers led 6-0 just 41 seconds into the contest.
For the rest of the first half it was Lehman’s turn. With 3:36 remaining in the opening frame Lehman took a hand off and raced 62 yards to pay dirt for the score. This time Kevin Alexander’s extra point split the uprights and North Penn led 13-0.
Alexander followed up that extra point with a 26-yard field goal to begin the second quarter. Then Lehman took back over, scoring twice more before the half ended. His second touchdown came on a 1-yard run with 5:31 to go, then exactly three minutes later he scored from 36 yards out to push the Panthers lead to 30-12.
Cowanesque Valley scored twice in the second half. In the third quarter Cody Flemming scores from a yard out, then later in the 4th quarter Elliott Good runs in from 6 yards out.
Litzelman finished 9-of-15 for 119 yards passing and a touchdown. Noah Spencer caught 6 passes for 74 yards and a touchdown while Brandon Thompson (2) and Koleton Roupp (1) caught passes for 23 and 26 yards, respectively.
For Cowanesque Valley Jacob Schmitt was 18-for-33 for 153 yards with 2 interceptions. Fleming and Good led the ground attack with 79 yards on 18 carries and 63 yards on 12 carries, respectively. Tanyan Brown (67) and Good (52) both caught 7 passes each on the evening.
The win improves the Panthers’ record to 2-1 (2-1 NTL Large School Division) while the Indians fall to 0-5 (0-4 NTL Small School Division). North Penn-Mansfield is back home this Friday against Sayre while Cowanesque Valley travels to Bucktail.
